Library Workshops for You and Your Students

Every semester the C.O.D. Library offers a series of short, free classes called S.O.S. (Smart Online Searcher) Workshops. These workshops are open to students, faculty, staff, and the community.

For Your Students

The S.O.S. workshops offer an introduction to locating and using Library and Internet resources. These workshops are hands-on, free, non-credit, and open to everyone. The purpose of these workshops is to encourage and teach all members of the College of DuPage community to master the skills necessary to conduct research and become independent lifelong learners.

Many instructors encourage their students to attend these workshops for extra-credit or as part of their class requirements. The workshop instructor will have your students complete an extra-credit assignment and forward the information on to you.

For You

If you’re interested in sharpening your technology skills or learning more about new technology, I teach several workshops in the SOS series as well as a TLC workshop.

This Fall, I’m teaching the following:

Social Software: Blogs, Wikis and More (SOS)

An introduction to social software: online tools used to collaborate, share and interact with others. We will take a look at examples of blogs, wikis and podcasts; learn how to get information “delivered” via RSS feeds; and talk about how to manage all this information using aggregators. Familiarity with computers and the Internet required. Here is a peek at the content of the workshop.

  • Thur. Oct. 8, 1-3 pm
  • Mon. Nov. 16, 3:30-5:30 pm
